You can
call
the practice number with your contact details. You will get my answer machine as I am a sole practitioner. I will call back as soon as I am free. Kindly note that hands-free mobiles can sound like the bottom of a barrel. Speak slowly, and repeat your telephone number. Thank you.
Preferably, email
your details. Please leave a contactable telephone number and your email address for follow up.
A medical referral is not necessary to make an appointment, unless you plan to seek a rebate through Medicare (see below). You can still claim from your private health insurer.
I am registered with Medicare and with most private health insurance services (such as HBF, Medibank Private, Bupa, etc). Check with your insurer what the rebate is. These vary among health insurers.
Medicare rebates are available through two sources:
Firstly, you can contact your GP, who will supply you with a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) under the Better Access Scheme. This provides for a total of 10 appointments in a calendar year.
Alternately, you will be eligible for Medicare rebates if you are referred by a medical specialist, such as a paediatrician, psychiatrist or neurologist. Medical specialists are not required to complete a MHCP, and all they require is a letter of referral.
Please note that diagnostic assessments are not covered by Medicare.
Medical specialists only (i.e. not GPs) are also permitted to refer under the Helping Children with Autism Initiative. Children must be under the age of 13 years. Children referred under the Autism Initiative plan may claim a total of 20 appointments for therapy, and up to 4 appointments for assessment.
